Almost Heaven - West Virginia Vacation 2004
After 3-1/2 years, I finally got to take a vacation!  Here's a recap of the trip, and just a few pictures of all
that we saw and did!

Day 1, July 8th - As you can imagine, it was a LONG drive ...Jack managed to get some sleep though.

Day 2, July 9th - We arrived at Brian's parents house, and after a "welcome home" visit with his mom and
dad (who we stayed with), we went
4-wheelin'.  The remote country where they live is beautiful!  When we got
back, it was time to
hit the pool!  Brian's dad, and Jack, kept us company, poolside.

Day 3, July 10th - This was our first full day, and we just kicked back.  After a trip to the grocery store,
and a rain storm, we
walked down to the end of the driveway to see the creek, which had flooded over from
the rain.

Day 4, July 11th - Brian and I took another 4-wheeler ride through the countryside, and saw a few old
houses along the way.  Afterwards, it was back out to the pool, relaxing and "scuba diving".  A tree frog kept
us company on the pool ladder.  Brian also had some
quality time with Jack.

Day 5, July 12th - We drove out to meet Brian's sister, and then headed into Charleston, the capitol of WV.
On the way there, we stopped to take a picture of a creepy (but awesome)
abandoned home.

Day 6, July 13th - This was a busy day!  Brian, his mom, and I drove to New River Gorge, but on the way, we
stopped at two waterfalls.  The first one was small, but we got in a few good pictures of
me & Brian, and Brian
& his mom.  The second one was really high, and we braved the rocks to get right up next to it.  Brian and his
mom stopped to take a look at the view across the street from the falls.  Our next stop overlooked New
River Gorge, and New River Dam.  Brian's mom and I took pictures with Brian, with the dam in the background.
Brian and I also stopped to get a
picture with the Gorge in the background.  We took a tram down to the Jet
Boat dock, which took us
up the river to the New River Gorge Bridge.  Afterwards, we drove to the original
bridge used to cross the river, and got a view of the new bridge as well.  On our way down the winding road, we
stopped to take a picture
under the bridge.

Day 7, July 14th - This was a very laid back day.  Brian's sister Anita came over, with her friend Kelly and
her kids, and we all hung out
by the pool.  A spider web hanging on the pool house caught everyone's eye.

Day 8, July 15th - Another busy day.  We went for another 4-wheeler ride.  After our ride, I stopped to
take a
few pics of the mail bridge his parents use to cross the creek to get their mail, and another picture of
his parent's
beautiful property.  Afterwards, we went into Charleston, with Brian's sister and her family, to
the
Air Guard base where his Uncle Sonny works.  After Brian's cousin Erika was dressed up as a base
fireman, we toured the C130 planes.  Brian and I got to be pilots, and passengers, on the plane.  Brian stopped
to share the
"flight" with his dad.  We had some fun outside the plane...I posed with his dad and Sonny, and his
sister Anita, and her son Nathan, did some
maintenance on the propellers.

Day 9, July 16th - Friday was our trip to Logan, WV.  This is where most of Brian's family lives.  We stopped
at
Chief Logan park, where his family reunion was going to take place on Saturday.  We saw Chief Logan, and
visited
Bradshaw Hollow, before heading over for a visit with his Uncle Tivis.  Afterwards, we attended a
cookout at Brian's Uncle Sonny's, where we visited with his cousins, and relaxed with his
sister Bobbie, and
his aunt Donetta.

Day 10, July 17th - Unfortunately, the vacation was winding down, and we left WV Saturday morning.
Before we left, I took a picture of
Brian and his dad, and one of with both mom and dad, and I jumped in for a
photo with them as well.  We had a great visit, and his parents were a lot of fun!

Day 11, July 18th - On our way back to Texas, we stopped at Loretta Lynn's ranch.  I sat at Loretta's
doorstep, and then crossed the bridge to tour the town of Hurricane Mills, which Loretta owns.  The old mill
there was a great
photo opportunity, as were the recreation of her childhood home in Butcher Hollow.  We
weren't allowed to take pictures inside
her house, but got some good shots from outside.
